Coaches and Administrators:
The Abilene Chapter of Basketball Officials is preparing for a very busy and successful 2007-2008 season. We appreciate the opportunity to serve your school and are looking forward to getting back on the court.
In an effort to improve our level of service to you, our board of directors is working hard to make the upcoming season better than ever.
· We will continue to use the Arbiter game-assigning software to assign both varsity and sub-varsity games. We must have all schedules (middle school through high school varsity) sent in to Dan Bristow, our new assigning secretary, by August 1, 2007. Each coach will be required to check their schedule on The Arbiter and verify that it is correct before games are assigned. Please give a final check on your schedule before October 22 and let Bristow know if changes must be made. His mailing address, email address, and cell number can be found at the end of this letter.
· We need your initial scratch list for a maximum of six officials per school sent to Dan Bristow; The new scratch list can be downloaded from our website, www.abilenerefs.com, using the Coach’s Box button, on or before October 22. Please use discretion as we are limited in numbers. Once games are assigned and accepted by the officials, we will not pull or replace officials unless unassigned officials are available. In the event assigned officials are refused and no unassigned officials are available, officials may be assigned by the UIL. The officials originally assigned to the game must be paid for the scheduled games unless they receive a new assignment. Any official who accepts a game and then pulls out is subject to a substantial fine.
· We are making an increased effort to educate our younger officials and to maintain or increase our numbers. There will be zero tolerance for verbal abuse towards our new officials. They are instructed not to officiate a game without a partner and to immediately report any abuse to our board of directors. Officials will not be scheduled for that school until the situation is resolved.
·
We will charge the current UIL mileage fee for
one car round trip from
· The tournament fee schedule will be as follows (per crew, regardless of number):
· Varsity or any 8 minute quarter games $120 per game
· Sub-varsity 7 minute quarters $70 per game
· 6 minute quarters $50 per game
· We will charge $50 for each gym used in a scrimmage up to 3 hours. After 3 hours, the fee will be $25 per hour per gym. This money is used to recruit and train new officials.
In closing, we truly appreciate
the schools we work for and believe we work for the best schools in the
state. We will work hard to provide your
teams with the best officials available, to always be professional and
courteous, and to look out for the safety and well-being of your athletes. If you have any questions, concerns, or
complaints, please do not hesitate to call any of our officers. We invite you to visit our website, www.abilenerefs.com .
We will have a rules clinic and mixer to start the season on November 7,
